The association has one sentence about string lights that most residents never read until a letter shows up. They have to go up neat and orderly, the wiring has to be out of sight, and nothing gets draped. That happens to be how we like to work anyway. If you’ve been turning over the idea of Sun City Lincoln Hills Christmas light hanging and you’d just as soon stay off the ladder this year, call (916) 675-8282 and stay in your chair while we talk it over.
What the ARC checklist says, and what it leaves out
The Sun City Lincoln Hills Community Association keeps an exterior lighting checklist for its Architectural Review Committee. The copy revised in spring 2025 says decorative strings of lights and rope lighting are to be installed in a neat and orderly fashion with the wiring concealed from view. Draping string lighting is prohibited. It also says exterior lighting may not be directed outside your own property.
What we could not find is a published put-up or take-down date for holiday lights. The full design guidelines are for logged-in residents only, so we’re not printing one. Read your current copy, give us the dates, and both trips get fitted to them. Boards revise these documents, so go by the newest version. Front yard decorations a neighbor can see need ARC approval too, so ask before adding yard pieces.
Next door, Lincoln Crossing and Twelve Bridges run by different rules and get pages of their own. Everything else in town is on our Lincoln Christmas light page.
Neat and concealed, on a Del Webb house
This is a 55+ Del Webb community: 6,783 homes built between 1999 and 2008, some attached and some single-family.
- Roofline lights. Each bulb sits in a clip on the gutter lip or along the roof’s edge, all pointed the same way. No nails, no staples, nothing left in the fascia.
- Wiring. Lead cords run down behind a downspout or along the trim line, so from the street you see light and not wire.
- Lit garland. Fastened snug around the door frame or along a porch rail. No loops and no swags, since that’s how we read the checklist’s ban on draping.
- Lit wreaths. One over the garage or on the front gable, hung from a hook that comes back off with it.
- Pillar wraps. Porch posts wound in even turns, bottom to top, with the plug end tucked at the back.
- Tree wraps. Trunk and lower limbs, wound tight. The association has its own landscaping limits for oak trees, so on an oak we use soft ties and never put a fastener into bark.
- Stake lighting. Edging the front walk, away from the sprinklers, and aimed at your own path, not the neighbor’s window.
Golf course lots, open space lots, corner lots
The ARC sorts every lot into one of four kinds: golf course, open space, interior or corner. With two 18-hole golf courses winding through, a golf course lot has a back side that people see from a long way off, and a single clean line on the rear eave shows up nicely across a fairway at dusk. Open space lots are similar. A corner lot shows two faces to the street, so the roofline run usually turns the corner and carries down the side.
The lighted homes list, and Stillwater
People here do go looking. In 2020 the association ran a Community Holiday Lights program where residents registered their homes and a list of lighted houses, sorted by Village, went out in the Compass magazine. Stillwater Place and Stillwater Court also turned up on a Roseville-area family list of display streets in 2024, though that list marked them as unconfirmed for the year. So after dinner at Meridians, or on the way home from something at Orchard Creek Lodge or Kilaga Springs Lodge, somebody is probably taking the slow way past your house.
How Sun City Lincoln Hills Christmas light hanging works with us
You call (916) 675-8282, or text a couple of pictures showing the street side of your place, or send them on the contact form. We’ll ask a few plain things, like where your outside outlets are, and give you a quote over the phone. Nobody needs to come by first. We supply every strand, put it up, and leave a timer on it, so the place comes on by itself at dusk and rests before late night.
Come January our crew is back to unclip the whole works and carry it away. Not one bin ends up in your garage. If a section quits in the middle of December, phone (916) 675-8282 and it gets handled.
We’re in Lincoln most days of the season. Stay in your chair. We’ll bring the ladder.
A few Sun City Lincoln Hills questions
Is there a holiday light date window in Sun City Lincoln Hills?
We looked and did not find a published date window, and the full design guidelines are for residents only. Check your current documents or ask the association office, and our crew will time the work and the January removal to suit.
What does ‘no draping’ mean for garland and icicle-style looks?
The lighting checklist prohibits draping string lighting, so we fasten garland and strands tight to the frame, rail or roof edge and skip loops and swags. If you want a certain look, ask the ARC before we hang it.
Is the back of a golf course lot worth lighting?
Yes. A rear eave line shows well across a fairway. We aim and time it so the light stays on your property and shuts off before late night.
Will you decorate common areas or the lodges?
Only if the association hires us for that. On a homeowner job we stay on your lot and leave the association’s trees and entry features alone.
