Coming down Auburn-Folsom Road from Granite Bay on a winter evening, the lake’s off to your left somewhere in the dark, and the first lit houses you pass are on the north end of town. That’s the side of Folsom we light most, just down the road from our shop in Loomis. We’ve done a good deal of Folsom Christmas light hanging on those canyon streets, and we’d be happy to add your house. Call (916) 675-8282 and we’ll put together a free quote.

American River Canyon North and the Old Canyon Streets

In American River Canyon North, the homes run larger, a lot of them semi-custom or executive style, and they tend toward cleaner, more modern lines than the older canyon streets below. Big, simple rooflines like that are the easy ones. One even run of warm white along the eaves and up the peaks can carry the whole house, and you don’t need a yard full of extras to make it work.

The original American River Canyon neighborhood sits up high between Lake Natoma and Folsom Lake, and it’s a quiet mix of ranch homes, tri-levels and big Mediterranean builds, most of them on streets that end in cul-de-sacs. Cul-de-sacs are fun to light. When three or four houses at the end of the circle all go up, you get a little pocket of light that feels like an old neighborhood Christmas, the kind people used to drive out to see.

    Tile, Tri-Levels and Steep Pitches

Those Mediterranean homes mostly wear tile, and tile wants patience. We use clips shaped for tile that hold the light along the lower edge without lifting a piece, and we don’t walk on it any more than we have to. Composition shingle is simpler, with the clip slipping under the tab. Tri-levels step up and down across the front, so we count each run separately from your photos and make sure the lines match at the joints. A gap on the middle level shows from the street.

Briggs Ranch and the Sloping Streets

Briggs Ranch is only minutes from Folsom Lake, and the streets curve and slope with views out over tree-spotted hills. Sloped front yards change the ladder work, and they change how the house shows from the street. Sometimes the best thing on the property is a big oak down by the curb, and wrapping it trunk and limb gives the house something to sit behind. We set ladders on level footing and tie off where we need to, and a sloped yard simply takes a little longer.

There’s another thing about sloped lots that folks don’t always think about. When the house sits above the street, you’re looking up at it, so the roofline is what people see first and the lawn barely shows. When it sits below, the yard and the walkway do the talking. Send us a picture taken from the street, the way a neighbor would see it, and we’ll plan the lights around that view.

Folsom Christmas Light Hanging Around Sutter Street

The old downtown along Sutter Street has storefronts and restaurants that look wonderful with a little garland and a few lit wreaths. We hang lit garland across entries and railings, wreaths on the posts or above the doors, and we keep everything neat enough that it won’t catch a coat sleeve on a busy sidewalk. We do offices and churches around town too.

The older houses on the blocks around the Folsom Historic District are a different job from the canyon. Smaller lots, older trim, porches right up by the sidewalk. We check the wood before we clip anything, keep the roofline to the front edge, and let a porch rail full of garland carry the house. It looks the way downtown Folsom ought to look in December.

    What Comes With It

    Lights, ladders and setup

We bring every light, and every strand is ours to test. Rooflines, tree wraps, pillar and column wraps, stakes, wreaths and garland are all part of what we do. For walkways, stakes go in between the sprinkler heads, spaced so the path reads clean from the door. See our Christmas light installation page for the full rundown.

    Power and timers

We find your outdoor outlets, work out which are on a GFCI, and keep cords off the walkway. Then a timer turns everything on around sundown and off at night, and you don’t give it another thought.

    Fixes and takedown

If a strand fails, phone (916) 675-8282; one of us will be out to fix it. Come January, the same crew drives back over, unhooks it all and loads the truck, so the gutters are clear well before the rains quit and there’s nothing to box up and store.

    Down Auburn-Folsom Road From Loomis

Our trucks run through Granite Bay and Orangevale to get here, so Folsom is a short hop past jobs we already have. We’ll talk through the house with you at (916) 675-8282, or you can start with a note on the contact page.
