January 15th. That’s the day the Lincoln Crossing Community Association wants December holiday decorations off the house, and it’s written into the architectural rules in so many words. Most folks mean to get to it, and then it rains two weekends in a row. With our Lincoln Crossing Christmas light hanging, the takedown is already on our calendar before the first bulb goes up.
The January 15th rule, in plain words
The association’s Architectural Rules, the set dated October 2023, treat holiday displays as a temporary change to the house for a special event. Temporary things are supposed to come down no later than two weeks after the event. Then the rules name two dates outright: Halloween decorations removed by November 15th, and December holiday decorations removed by January 15th.
Notice what isn’t in there. The rules give no put-up date, so the document itself doesn’t tell you when you can start. It does say exterior lighting shouldn’t be a nuisance to neighbors or to passing motorists, and management staff do site reviews to see that things have come down. Boards change rules from time to time, so read the current copy before you lean on ours. Then call (916) 675-8282.
If you’re in Meridian Equinox, Sierra View, The Courtyards or Cerrada
Those four are sub-associations with their own architectural rules, and the master association’s rule says plainly that it doesn’t cover them. If your house is in one of them, your date may be different. Find your own paperwork, read us the date, and we’ll work to that instead.
Lincoln Crossing Christmas light hanging on a mid-2000s house
There are close to 3,000 single family homes here, most started in the mid-2000s, running three to six bedrooms. The bigger plans carry a lot of roof edge, with peaks over the garage that nobody enjoys reaching from an extension ladder.
Roofline lights hang on clips, and the clip depends on what’s up there. On a tile roof it slides under the edge of the tile, so nobody is walking around breaking pieces. On a gutter it grips the lip. Nothing gets nailed or stapled to the fascia. The rules also keep climbing vines below the roofline and off the roof, which leaves the eave clear for a straight run.
Pillar wraps suit the entry columns you find on a lot of these fronts. We wind them evenly and hide the plug end behind the post. Lit garland frames the door or the porch opening, and a lit wreath set on the garage wall gives the eye somewhere to land. Along the driveway and front walk, stake lighting sits back from the concrete and clear of the sprinkler heads.
Trees that stay a sensible size
The HOA’s tree list caps what can be planted at about 40 feet tall with a 30 foot canopy at maturity. For lights, that’s a gift. Trees of that size have trunks and lower limbs we can reach and wrap properly, and a wrapped trunk in a front yard does more than people expect. We tie off with soft fasteners and leave room for the bark.
The tree wrapping page shows what a wrapped trunk involves. Neighbors in Verdera can read about Verdera’s 30-day rule, and our Lincoln page has the rest of town.
Walking paths, the clubhouse and the house behind you
Lincoln Crossing is laced with walking paths, and plenty of back fences face one. If yours does, the rear of the house is on display to every evening walker heading toward Club Lincoln. Some neighbors light a back eave or a patio cover for that reason. Either way we set a timer, so the lights come on at dusk and go off before they’d bother anyone trying to sleep. That covers the nuisance language in the rules, too.
If you live in Sorrento or another gated section, just let us know how the gate works when you call (916) 675-8282.
Quotes come by phone
Ring (916) 675-8282 or text us pictures of your home’s street side. The contact page takes them as well. We’ll ask about outlets and which parts you want lit, and you’ll have a quote without anyone standing in your driveway. We bring every strand and cord. There’s nothing for you to buy or store.
Then in early January, ahead of the 15th, the crew returns and clears the house. If something goes dark before then, ring (916) 675-8282 and it gets seen to.
Holiday Nights Christmas Lights Hanging works all over this side of Placer County, and in Lincoln Crossing the calendar is simple. Down before the 15th, every time.
A few Lincoln Crossing questions
What is the Lincoln Crossing deadline for taking holiday lights down?
The master association’s Architectural Rules say December holiday decorations are to be removed by January 15th. We schedule takedowns in early January to stay ahead of it. Rules get revised, so confirm with the current copy.
How early can lights go up here?
Nothing in the master association’s document names a start date. It gives a removal deadline, and it asks that lighting not be a nuisance to neighbors or passing motorists.
I live in The Courtyards. Does the January 15th rule apply to me?
Not directly. Meridian Equinox, Sierra View, The Courtyards and Cerrada have their own architectural rules, and the master rule excludes them. Check your sub-association’s documents and we’ll plan around those.
My back fence faces a walking path. Do people light the rear of the house here?
Some do. A back eave or a patio cover shows to every evening walker, and one timer runs both sides.
