Hidden Valley was laid out in 1949 and 1950, on about 370 acres, long before anybody around here thought much about tract lots. It still feels that way. The trees were here first and the houses fit in among them. So Hidden Valley Christmas light hanging is mostly a matter of working with the woods instead of against them.
Lights that show through the trees
These are wooded, rural lots strung along Miner’s Ravine, with lakes, common open space and riding and hiking trails in between. Your house probably isn’t lined up square to a street the way a newer one would be. A neighbor might see it from Pine Gate Way, from across a pond, or from a trail.
In country like this, less is more. One strong roofline, a wrapped trunk or two close to the house, and a lit wreath where it can be seen through a gap in the branches. That’s often all it takes. Darkness does a lot of the work for you out here, since there isn’t much else lit nearby to compete.
How we hang them on an older house
Building here started in 1949, so we don’t assume anything about the roof. Text us photos and we’ll see whether it’s shake, composition, tile or metal, and bring the right clip. Roofline lights sit in clips on the eave or the gutter. Older fascia and wood trim never see a nail or a staple from us.
Tree wraps are what this neighborhood was made for. A mature tree takes a wrap up the trunk and out along the first heavy limbs, tied off soft with nothing driven into the bark. Porch posts and entry columns get pillar wraps. Lit garland follows a porch rail or frames the front door.
Stake lighting works along a driveway and beside a front path. We keep stakes out of irrigation and off to the side where a car won’t find them.
See the tree wrapping page for more on how the wraps go on, the Granite Bay page for the rest of town, or our page for Sierra de Montserrat, another place with big lots and long driveways.
Hidden Valley Christmas light hanging and fire sense
The Hidden Valley Community Association runs an active Firewise program, and we take that seriously on a wooded lot. Plugs and connections stay up off leaf litter. Cords run along the house and the trunk, not across the duff. Every display goes on a timer so it’s off overnight.
As for association rules on holiday lights, the HVCA keeps its CC&Rs, resolutions and newsletters behind a member login, and we haven’t seen them. No dates from us, then. Look up what your documents say, call (916) 675-8282, and we’ll fit both ends of the job to it. We also leave the common ground alone, including the trees around the Oak Lake clubhouse, unless the association asks for us.
The gate code
Hidden Valley uses a gate code and asks that vehicles be registered. When you book, tell us how you’d like to handle that for our truck. We’ll need it for the day we hang and again when we return.
A phone call, then January
We quote over the phone, helped along by whatever photos you text us or put on the contact page. Call (916) 675-8282 and describe the place. We supply the lights and the labor.
In January we’re back to bring it all down, trees included. Nothing is left wound around a limb to girdle it over the summer. And should a strand quit on you in December, (916) 675-8282 is the fix.
We come down Barton Road from Loomis, so you’re about as close to home as our jobs get.
A few Hidden Valley questions
Are there HOA rules for Christmas lights in Hidden Valley?
Hidden Valley’s governing documents sit behind a member login, which puts them out of our reach. Check your copy and we’ll work to whatever it requires.
Is it safe to wrap lights on big old trees on a wooded lot?
Yes, done carefully. We use soft ties, keep connections off the leaf litter, run the display on a timer and remove every wrap in January.
Does your truck have to be registered for the Pine Gate Way entrance?
The community requires a gate code and vehicle registration. Tell us the arrangement when you book, and remember we come through twice.
My house can’t be seen from the road. Is Hidden Valley Christmas light hanging still worth doing?
Plenty of our customers light a house mostly for themselves and their guests. A roofline and one wrapped trunk by the door make coming home after dark a pleasure.
